Hiroshima Mazda is pleased to announce that it will be the main sponsor of Evangelion Racing, which will be competing in the JeGT2021 series of e-motorsports with the MAZDA RX-VISION GT3. Also, Mr. Kota Sasaki, who is currently competing in the Super Taikyu series in the No. 103 HM RACERS Mazda2 Demio, will be the team principal.

 

The JeGT series is an e-sport series that uses the PlayStation4’s Gran Turismo SPORT that has been running since 2020. The MAZDA RX-VISION GT3 that the team will be using is based on the MAZDA RX-VISION concept car that was unveiled at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show, a virtual race car that was jointly created by Polyphony Digital, the developer of Gran Turismo, and Mazda’s designers. Gran Turismo SPORT will be available for download in May 2020. Mazda’s partnership with Gran Turismo SPORT is based on the company’s desire to bring the joy and fun of driving to users in digital motorsports, where people of all ages and locations can participate. This will be the third entry of the MAZDA RX-VISION GT3 in the JeGT series, and in the 2020 season, TC CORSE Esports MAZDA won the team competition using the same car.

 

The Evangelion Racing Team is currently competing in a wide range of categories including SUPER GT, Super Taikyu, and 86/BRZ races, and this will be their second year in the JeGT series. The team’s machine, the “EVA RT TEST TYPE-01 RX-VISION GT3,” has the low, aggressive appearance of the MAZDA RX-VISION GT3 CONCEPT, with a purple base color that evokes the image of the first Evangelion machine from the popular anime and movie Evangelion. It sports liveries with yellow and green lines.

 

Tetsuya Matsuda, Chairman of Hiroshima Mazda, the main sponsor of the team, said, “Before Mr. Kota Sasaki’s proposal, I was interested in e-sports, but did not have the opportunity or knowledge to participate. First of all, I am very happy to have been given this opportunity. In this day and age when everyone has a smartphone, e-sports is a new communication tool that allows people from all over the world to participate anywhere, and I think this is our chance to learn about it. I would love to see them win the championship. Hiroshima Mazda supports people who love Mazda and people who love cars. I hope that in the future, the name MAZDA RX-VISION will become known all over the world and motor sports will flourish. We look forward to your support.”

 

Mr. Kota Sasaki, the team principal, commented, “Evangelion Racing is going to race this season with four proven drivers and the MAZDA RX-VISION GT3 CONCEPT, and since it is a must-win system to aim for the championship, I directly conveyed my thoughts to Mr. Matsuda, the chairman of Hiroshima Mazda. I would like to feed back to the team what I have experienced in the world of real racing and enhance the team’s strength. The package of the cool MAZDA RX-VISION GT3, Evangelion, and Hiroshima Mazda is a combination that is only possible in the world of e-racing. The JeGT2021 Series, Team Round Rd.1 will start on October 2nd, and the race will be broadcasted on the official JeGT YouTube channel and official Twitter account.
