IRVINE, Calif. April 18 (Sat) – Wayne Taylor Racing, with drivers Ricky and Jordan Taylor, took the win in Saturday’s Tequila Patron Sports Car Showcase for the IMSA TUDOR United SportsCar Series on the city streets of Long Beach. The two Mazda SKYACTIV diesel entries executed their race strategy with a smooth and steady run, finishing seventh and eighth in the Prototype category.

In the opening stint, starting drivers Tristan Nunez and Tom Long ran in tandem in the No. 70 and No. 07 cars. The 100-minute race allowed each team to make only one pit stop to add fuel and make a driver change. As the official team of Mazda USA, SpeedSource, are renowned for, a quick pit stop allowed Joel Miller in the No. 07 entry roll to a seventh-place tally, while Jonathan Bomarito brought home the No. 70 car to eighth-place, both without technical issue or accidents.

Jonathan Bomarito, driver, No. 70 Mazda: “Everybody did their job and executed the strategy we had in place. The team did what we needed to, and our goal was to keep both cars clean. We’re really looking forward to Mazda Raceway (the TUDOR Series will race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca Sunday, May 3), where we believe there are good things in store for the team.”

Joel Miller, driver for the No. 07 Mazda commented with a bright smile, “The engineers put down a very good plan, working with our [team’s strongpoint] fuel economy in mind. Then, we just set to work. We were running consistent laps the whole race – just clicking them off lap after lap. The lap times [on this twisty street circuit] showed very well how our engineers and their race simulations worked. We’re ready when the opportunity comes to shine, we know we can perform.”
