The Grand-Am road race ladder consists of six categories, of which the Rolex Sports Car series is the highest. In addition, the Rolex Sports Car series has two classes, the Daytona Prototype class and the Grand Touring class. RX-8s participate in the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car series' GT class.
In addition to the RX-8, examples of Porsche GT3, Pontiac GXP.R, Corvette, and BMW M6 participate for the full season, with Ferrari 430 Challenge and Ford Mustang entries participating in some races.
One of the most famous and legendary endurance races, the Daytona 24hours hosts the opening round of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car series every year. The SpeedSource Mazda RX-8 took victory in the GT class in the 2008 running of the Daytona 24 Hours after defeating many powerful competitors.
In 2009, a total of four RX-8s participated for the full season, running excellently with rotary power.
