One More Fourth For Gue and Cameron in No.41 Team Seattle Mazda at Lime Rock
2011 Grand-Am Rolex Series Round5
Memorial Day Classic, Lime Rock Park
The Memorial Day Classic at Lime Rock Park played host to Round 5 of the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series. The single-day event meant that teams had practice, qualifying and the race all rolled into a few short hours.
James Gue and Dane Cameron scored their second-straight GRAND-AM Rolex Series fourth-place finish in the #41 Dempsey Racing Mazda RX-8 GT.
Gue said, "Strategy wise, Dane did a great job at the end, very pleased with the weekend, it's just a little frustrating we can't seem to get back on the podium."
Dempsey was making his first career race start of any kind at Lime Rock. A unique one-day format, Dempsey practiced in the #40 in a steady morning rain shower, later qualified the Mazda in 11th and didn't put a wheel wrong when he drove more than the first full hour of the race. "It was great to finally get a chance to race at Lime Rock," said Dempsey. "I have been here before, but never to race, and it is tough, very physical. I just focused on consistent lap times and worked hard on learning all of the turns and unique characteristics of the track. I could feel something a little wrong with the car during the stint and it is a real shame for everybody and the guys that we couldn't get to the finish." #40 finished 11th in the race.
The SpeedSource team had bad luck in this race. Just after the green flag waved, a spinning Daytona Prototype after Turn 1 caused the GT field to stack up at the start of the race. Heavy contact to the #69 FXDD Mazda RX-8 sent it off-track into the grass. Assentato and co-driver Jeff Segal would eventually finish in 10th place.?Early on, the #70 Castrol Edge Mazda RX-8 showed great pace as Tremblay was able to keep the RX-8 at the front of the GT pack. Later on, unfortunately that time never came for the team as a ruptured oil line would force the car into an unscheduled pit stop. They earned a 12th place finish.
The #42 Team Sahlen Mazda RX-8 scored 7th place and #43 finished 13th place.
The #41 RX-8 GT team has jumped to third in the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series GT Team Championship standings with 128 points.
