Grand-Am Rolex Series Round 6 Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen
Mazda RX-8s lock-out 2nd to 7th place
Sylvain Tremblay and Jonathan Bomarito finished second in the No. 70 Castrol Syntec Mazda RX-8 at the Sahlen's Six Hours of The Watkins Glen International. The No. 41 RX-8 of Leh Keen and James Gue led a class-leading 49 laps in an effort to give Dempsey Racing its first victory, but the car dropped back to sixth after a pit miscommunication. Keen drove a spirited final hour to finish third, pressuring Bomarito at the checkered flag.
Closing out the remainder of the top 5 were the #69 FXDD Mazda RX-8 and the #68 Mazdaspeed Motorsports Development Mazda RX-8 in fourth and fifth. The #30 Racers Edge Motorsports RX-8 took sixth place and another Dempsey Racing machine, the #40 car of Joe Foster and Charles Espenlaub charged back from an early spin in the rain to finish a solid seventh.
Tremblay steadily raced through to the front of the GT field after taking the green flag. The crew of the #70 Mazda RX-8 decided to conduct driver changes during each hour of the race in order to keep their drivers fresh. The team was able to gain several spots through great pit strategy and quick stops by the crew, going on to score the third podium finish of the season for the #70 Castrol Syntec Mazda RX-8.
Current Rolex GT points leaders, the #69 FXDD Mazda RX-8 continued to add to its championship lead with a 4thplace finish. They currently hold a one point advantage over their teammates in the #70 car.
