Grand-Am Rolex Series Round 8 Brumos Porsche 250, Daytona International Speedway
RX-8s finish 4th through 8th at Round 8 of Grand-Am GT
The GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series returned to Daytona International Speedway for the Brumos Porsche 250. The three SpeedSource Mazda RX-8s finished 4th, 5th, and 6th with GT points' leaders Emil Assentato and Jeff Segal leading the pack.
Emil Assentato started the #69 FXDD Mazda RX-8 from the 4th row on the grid after qualifying 8th in the GT class. The current GT points' co-leader drove a strong opening stint to put the car in a great position before handing over control to driver partner Jeff Segal. Segal steadily climbed his way up to the lead pack in GT, running as high as 3rd by mid-race, as he tried to chase down the higher-powered cars of the other manufacturers. Ultimately the duo finished 4th as the highest-placed Mazda. The strong performance helps Assentato and Segal further extend their points' lead.
Young Mazda ladder drivers Adam Christodoulou and John Edwards made their first appearance at Daytona International Speedway as drivers. The pair showed the strength of the Mazda ladder program by earning a 5th-place finish.
Sylvain Tremblay once again showed his brilliance at the Daytona International Speedway circuit by taking pole position during qualifying. Tremblay piloted the #70 RX-8 away from the field in the opening hour until a tire failure sent him into the pits for an unscheduled stop. The duo finished in 6th place.
The #41 Dempsy Racing RX-8 and #30 Racers Edge RX-8 earned 7th place and 8th place finishes. The #43 Team Sahlen RX-8 finished in 10th place.
