Nineteen hour-mark:
#70 RX-8 rises to first place in GT class

The #70 car, which had just lost its teammate, caught the Porsche GT leading the race at the 19-hour mark. The Porsche suffered from fuel failure when it was running in first place and the #70 SpeedSource RX-8 passed the car as it slowly made its way back to the pits.
The #70 car had started from the second row and didn't push very hard during the rainy opening stage. Its tactic was to let other cars go first during the wet stage and improve its place after the track conditions had also gotten better. However, during middle of the night, the machine made contact with a prototype, losing a few laps in the process. Fortunately, the damage was light and there were no mechanical problems, allowing the car to improve its position as the race wore on. After moving into the lead, the #70 RX-8 maintained its pace, driving quickly and stably every lap. In addition, those behind fell away in the latter stages, so that the car held a five-lap gap over second place in the final two hours.
