Eighteen-hour mark:
#69 RX-8 withdrawn during demonic time
Beware of driving in the morning of any 24-hour race. The changing temperatures, road conditions and visibility cause mechanical trouble and human error. Since it was cloudy, there wasn't much of a temperature change during daybreak, which occurred at around 7:15 this year. However, many cars got into trouble with incidents such as fires, flat tyres, and damaged cowling falling onto the track, resulting in a change of the order.
The driving force of the RX-8s was the #69 car at that time, but it was replaced by the #70 before daybreak, moving up to 4th in class. The #70 continued to push in an effort to catch the leader. Meanwhile, the body of the #69 car caught fire after leaving the pits at around 8:30 After coming back to the pits, the crew found that the fire had been caused by oil inside the engine. The pole-sitting #69 entry was forced to withdraw after 488 laps, ending its 24-hour race.
