4-hour mark: RX-8 place 5th, 6th, 11th, and 13th.
After the start of the 24 hour event at 15:30, the race headed into the sunset at 18:00. Even though the order of the cars had changed considerably, there had been no major accidents.
Car #70, the SpeedSource RX-8, started from 15th place on the grid driven by team owner Sylvain Tremblay. Tremblay moved up to 11th place on the second lap, and continued to steadily rack up the laps. After one hour on track they switched drivers to Jonathan Bomarito, and soon after, on the 51st lap, the right-rear tyre burst, forcing the car to slow. A body panel was also damaged, but after swapping the tyre in the pit, the car returned to the track. After four hours they were running in 11th place, with Adam Christodoulou behind the wheel.
Car #40 from Dempsey Racing started the race with Charles Espenlaub at the wheel, and then switched to the number two driver, Patrick Dempsey. Dempsey, who was in charge of the car going in to the evening and the period when the light suddenly fades, said; "There is a build-up of tyre debris at the Bus Stop (part of the back stretch) which made it a little slippery, but the car is running very well with no particular problems."
At 19:30 the leading RX-8 was car #41 in 5th place, with the #69 RX-8 6th, the #70 car in 11th, and the #40 machine running 13th.
