JAF Grand Prix FUJI SPRINT CUP 2010
RE Amemiya RX-7 Takes 4th and 6th-place finishes in FUJI SPRINT CUP!
The JAF Grand Prix FUJI SPRINT CUP 2010 was held at Fuji Speedway for 3 days from Friday November 12th to Sunday November 14th. In race 1, after qualifying in 10th, Ryo Orime was in charge of RE Amemiya Racing's RX-7 GT300 and came 4th in the race. In race 2, Nobuteru Taniguchi was behind the wheel, taking 12th in qualifying and finishing the race in 6th place.
The JAF Grand Prix was a special race in which SUPER GT and Formula Nippon came together for the first time. The schedule had official qualifying sessions take place on Friday, followed by races for the GT300, GT500, and Formula Nippon categories on Saturday and Sunday. With no weight handicap in effect, SUPER GT was split into individual classes, and featured one driver each taking on a 22-lap sprint race. The start of the races was also not the usual rolling start-style, but a standing start, making it fresh and varied for the spectators.
Although the RX-7 was competing in a no-handicap race, a Special Performance Adjustment, like that used in Round 8, was in effect, making it tough going on the high-speed Fuji circuit. Excellent getaways at the standing start of both race 1 and 2 raised their positions, while those in higher starting spots fell back due to various problems and penalties. Both drivers raced from start to finish without any mistakes or problems, each of them finishing 6 positions higher than where they had started.
Team representative Isami Amemiya's comment: "To all our fans, thank you very much for your support this year. Here at Fuji the Special Performance Adjustment makes things tough, and we were not able to meet your expectations. The times were not bad at all, but we were unable to use tactics in the no-handicap sprint races, and unfortunately weren't able to stand on the winner's podium. Many apologies. We are trying very hard for next year, so please be patient with us."
