Super GT Round 8 at Twin Ring Motegi
Amemiya RX-7 Places 8th in Final Race, Finishes Season in 3rd

The Motegi GT 250km Race was held on October 24th (Sunday) at Twin Ring Motegi in Tochigi Prefecture. The RE Amemiya Racing RX-7 GT300 (Nobuteru Taniguchi and Ryo Orime) started from 6th on the grid, momentarily advanced to 2nd, but was then dealt some bad luck in the final stages of the race and dropped back. They finished in 8th, capping off with a 3rd place ranking in the series.

The team was ready for a showdown in the final race of the season as all handicap weights had been eliminated. Despite the fact that the RX-7 was running with a Special Performance Adjustment of 45kgs and a smaller diameter air restrictor, a relentless battle was anticipated. In the knockout-style qualifying, the RX-7 used its experience in Round 6 (which had used the same format), advancing steadily through each session to land the still-up-for-grabs 6th place on the grid in the final session.

In the race, the shortest on the calendar at 250km, Taniguchi pulled off a superb start to jump up to 3rd place-a great position from which to shoot for the lead. Motegi however, has few passing points and he was unable to match the speed of the machine in 2nd place, allowing the top-placed car to open up a big gap. At the pit stop, it was obvious the car's tyres had lost more grip than expected, and the squad couldn't use their trademark strategy of foregoing a tyre change, and fell back to 9th position. With new rubber on the car, Orime recovered some places and moved up to 5th. However, in the final stages of the race, the car directly in front of Orime started to slow. To avoid a collision, he was forced off line and three other cars in succession were able to sneak by, dropping him back to 8th. He finished the race in this position.

Amemiya founder Isami Amemiya went on to say, "Sorry to all the fans that have supported us. We made the greatest efforts to take back the title, but unfortunately, we couldn't pull if off. This year there's still a special event and looking toward next year, while a full-blown adjustment is impossible, I won't tire of rotary power and I intend to continue the fight. I'll do my best to make sure I'm able to share good news with everyone in the future, so please give us your continued support."
