Super GT Round 4 at Sepang International Circuit
RE Amemiya RX-7 records unprecedented fifth victory at Sepang

Round 4 of SUPER GT took place at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia. The RE Amemiya RX-7 started from the front row in the hands of Nobuteru Taniguchi, in the entry that had already taken victory in the GT300 class on four occasions. The RX-7 once again demonstrated its overwhelming strength at Sepang.

In the opening stages, Taniguchi was passed by Masami Kageyama in the Hankook Porsche, falling to third place. However, he passed 2nd-placed man Tetsuya Tanaka in the Ferrari F430 on lap nine. On the 15th tour, he overtook the Hankook Porsche for the lead of the race. The RX-7 returned to the pits on lap 27 for fuel, tyres and a driver switch to Ryo Orime, getting back on track in sixth place.

Team RE Amemiya used a no-tyre-change strategy last year. However, in order to make absolutely sure they'd win this race, they carried out the change. After all the other cars had made their stops, the RX-7 returned to the top of the order. In the final stages, the car slowed down due to suspension trouble, though they were able to take victory and the lead in the GT300 points' standings.
