NOPRO DEMIO takes second on the podium at Okayama Super Taikyu round
Super Taikyu Series Round 5 - Okayama International Circuit

In Round 5 of the Super Taikyu Series, held at Okayama International Circuit on September 1, the #17 NOPRO DEMIO (Toshihiko Nogami/Kenichi Obara/Tatsuya Tanigawa) earned their second straight appearance on the podium following their first win at Fuji Speedway in the previous race with a second place finish in the ST5 class. The #99 RS-R DEMIO finished fifth, while the #88 Murakami Motors NC Roadster (ST4 class) came eighth.

In qualifying on the previous day, the NOPRO DEMIO had a crash when the B driver was qualifying the car, but the team was able to clear the C driver qualifying as well thanks to speedy repairs by the team's mechanics. They advanced to the race sixth in their class. The #99 RS-R DEMIO, for whom Okayama International Circuit is their home course, was fifth in the same class, while the #88 Murakami Roadster was eighth in the ST4 class.

The race began in treacherous weather conditions with occasional heavy rain. Tanigawa started behind the wheel of the NOPRO DEMIO, driving in third place during the opening stages. When the safety car came out on track, he returned to the pit to hand over to Obara. Although they fell down the order, Obara drove quickly in the rain and gradually recovered their position. After substituting in Tanigawa for the final stint, they rose to third place. With less than 30 minutes remaining, the rain intensified, and the safety car came out on track for the third time. Immediately prior to that, they had passed the second place Vitz, and after the safety car left, further widened their lead, finishing second for a second consecutive appearance on the podium.

Meanwhile, the #88 Murakami Roadster went into the race with a lineup composed of three Okayama N1 roadster champions, outrunning the more powerful Honda machines in the rain, racing along at the top of their class for a time. They lost places due to the timing of their pit stops, eventually finishing eighth.

Nogami, representing NOPRO, said, “The mechanics worked all-out for us so that the DEMIO would be repaired and in top condition in time for the race. During the race, the safety car came out three times, for heavy rain or to address issues on track, making it a fight for survival, but we managed to finish the three-hour race in second place. We're currently in third place in the series, but there are still two races left, so we still have a chance at the championship. We weren't able to win back to back, but we'll give it our best shot next time.”
