2010 Super Taikyu Series, Round 1 Motegi Super Taikyu at Twin Ring Motegi, 400-kilometre race
Pair of RX-7s take 4th and 5th places in opening round of 2010 season
The 2010 Super Taikyu series has just started, the opening round taking place on March 28th at Twin Ring Motegi. This season sees two RX-7s campaigned by OKABE JIDOUSHA motor sport.
Twin Ring Motegi is stop-and-go type racetrack and thus considered unfavorable for the high-power FR layout RX-7 racing machine.
Qualifying took place in the morning, the #15 Okabe Jidousha Dixcel Iwasaki RX-7 driven by M. Nagashima, Y. Iwasaki, and K. Komatsu scoring 5th place and the #7 Okabe Jidousha JDS Makers RX-7 taking 7th on the grid.
In the race, both RX-7s improved their positions twice in the early stages, the #5 car moving up to 3rd place by the middle of the race. However, the #5 was passed by the #15 Nissan Z and finished in 4th place. The #7 car kept its position to finish in 5th place. Both RX-7s had no trouble in the race and easily got into the points. After finishing the race, owner-driver Nagashima said, "It was our plan to finish and to get points in this race. The next round at SUGO is a favorable racetrack for the RX-7. I will push myself."
Round 2 of the 2010 Super Taikyu Series takes place at Sportsland SUGO on May 9.
