Celebrating custom car culture, Tokyo Auto Salon 2014 was held at Makuhari Messe in Chiba from Friday, January 10 to Sunday, January 12, and saw the joint Mazda/MZRacing stand suitably packed with fans. Total attendance over the three days reached a new record, topping 290,000 for the first time.

Located in West hall #1, the Mazda Motorsports/MZRacing stand drew crowds with its “Be a racing driver.” theme, above the display of a pair of racing machines including the NOPRO Demio ST-5 (2013 Super Taikyu Series) and the “TCR Roadster”, the championship-winning car from the NC2 class of the Mazda Party Race II series. Appearing on the mini stage for a sports car talk show were Mazda's chief engineer on the roadster Mr. Nobuhiro Yamamoto, former development officer Takao Kijima, roadster driver Akira Kato, Super Taikyu Series father-son driver pairing Toshihiko and Tatsuya Nogami and Party Race NC2 champion Daisaku Kobayashi. From children to the elderly, fans of all ages enjoyed battling in the “Shakin' Racer” smart phone-based racing game, while scenes from the recent TUDOR United SportsCar Championship test enthralled spectators, as did the large photo panels depicting the Mazda LM P2 SKYACTIV-D Racing machine, scheduled to take part in the new series from this season. In addition, at the MZRacing store, Mazda motorsports-related goods including limited edition model cars and items celebrating the Mazda6's Manufacturer's Championship title in the GX class of the GRAND-AM series were available for purchase.

At the adjacent Mazda “Be a racing driver.” stand, a Mazda6 SKYACTIV-D Racing machine sat on display, while on the large-sized monitors, repeated moving images of the car which played such an active part in the GRAND-AM series rolled all day long. At driver Yojiro Terada's talk show, episodes and incidents not covered in the regular press were introduced, and judging by the looks on the faces of the spectators, it was interesting stuff! The show successfully demonstrated to a wide variety of people the activities of Mazda Motorsports and MZRacing.
