Knight Sports RX-8 places 3rd in Macau GP Opening Day Practice
60th Macau Grand Prix Road Sports Challenge

On November 14 (Thursday), a practice session was held at the Macau Grand Prix, and the Knight Sports RX-8, appearing in the Road Sports Challenge event, placed 3rd in the 40-minute session.

This year the Macau Grand Prix marks its 60th anniversary by incorporating race events spanning two weekends, with a one-make race for GT3 cars already held last week. The Knight Sports Van Iek Team, which entered the field this Monday, passed the ever-demanding car inspection without a problem, and had some breathing room going into the practice session.

Practice sessions started in the morning for each category. Macau had heavy rains during the week, a lingering effect of the typhoon that plagued southeast Asia last week, but that had turned to clouds on Wednesday and by Thursday conditions were completely dry and just a touch cool for the start of the races. A total of 35 machines lined up for the 40-minute session that began at 9:55 in the morning. The RX-8 driven by Tatsuya Tanigawa came from behind, passing many local contenders to take the inside line. The session was twice interrupted with red flags but there were no course-obstructing events and Tanigawa was able to finish the session in third place.

Team representative Hidefumi Nakamura said, “We needed to bring the car to the race without first destroying it, so we lowered the boost pressure and didn't use new tires.” “All things considered, the performance seemed reasonably good,” Tanigawa commented. “It feels powerful compared to last year's car (even with lower boost pressure). The boost levels seemed a bit high on the fast corners so I think we'll want to adjust for that.”

The qualifying session began on Friday, November 15th at 10:10am Macau time.
