Knight Sports Macau Challenge RX-8 completes domestic tests
On October 3, Knight Sports conducted its final domestic tests at Fuji Speedway for the Mazda RX-8 (13B Turbo) that will appear at this year's Macau Grand Prix Road Sports Challenge.
The main improvements to this year's machine include modifications to the shape of the engine ports, a modified turbine, increased boost, and modifications to the exhaust pipe manifold, which allow it to produce roughly 30 horsepower more than last year. In addition, other improvements have been made to conform to this year's regulations, such as changing the position of the rear wing mount and fuel tank. The main goals on the test day were to check the ECU mapping, set up the suspension, and verify stability control. Driver Tatsuya Tanikawa finished the test schedule quickly, running for 30 minutes in the morning, and another 30 minutes in the afternoon. The mechanics then loaded the machine onto the transporter and returned it to the factory. They will now prepare it for loading onto a ship headed for Macau on October 7.
Tanigawa commented, “The increased engine power was enough to feel, and I'm looking forward to the race. This year, I want to take the overall victory. Today's tests were done at the same time as the work to make the car compliant with the 2013 regulations and run checks and clear up anything that might get flagged in the vehicle inspection. The high-powered 4WDs like the Lancers and Imprezas - our main rivals in this race - are developed to a pretty high level, and their performance increases every year. I want to do my best to win and reward the hard work of all the people who have supported us at Mazda Hong Kong, Van Iek Motors, who run Mazda Macau, and Knight Sports.”
This year's Macau GP Road Sports Challenge race will be held on November 16 (Sat.).
