Excellent result for Stars Racing at Zolder

Willebroek, September 2, 2013
The 24 Hours of Zolder took place over the September 2nd weekend, with the pair of Stars Racing Mazda MX-5 geoing beyond merely crossing the finishing line as they worked wonders in the race. The ladies finished 15th overall and first in their class.

The men had to deal with an overheating and slipping differential, resulting in a lot of lost time in the pits and forcing them to slow down in the second part of the race. They finished 17th overall and 2nd in class, (for GT cars up to two liters) ahead of the B&T Racing-entered Lotus Elise. Both the women's (Anke De Dauw, Danique Aelaerts, Eveline and Veerle Maes Bammens) and men's (Bart Lievens, Gregory Eyckmans, Kenny Herremans and Michael Rausch) teams - all eight drivers and true ‘rookies’ - ended up on the podium!

With the exception of their suspension, the MX-5 series cars were 2.0-litre, 160hp variants. The men set their lap fastest with a 1:58.476, while the women recorded a top time of 2:00.912. This is of course very different from the big guns, (the Belgian Audi Club-entered Audi R8 set a best time of 1:29.629), but driving cleanly and avoiding problems, thanks to the reliability of Mazda, they still managed to grab a nice place in the standings. An unforgettable experience for these eight drivers, and one with which we can look forward to their futures on the circuit.
