Kevin Tse and Knight Sports RX-7 take historical win in Rd. 2 of MTCS China race series

On April 29, 2012, the Knight Sports RX-7 and Macau-based driver Kevin Tse, took victory in Round 2 of the MTCS Road Sport Challenge at the Guangdong International Circuit in China. Since its first presence at the Macau GP in 1993, the legendary Mazda RX-7 FD3S finally reached the top of the podium, a first in Macau's motorsports history.

For the first time in a few days the sun had come out, but with it, the temperature soared to over 30 degrees Celsius, posting a challenge to both the drivers and their cars. To minimize wear and tear under the challenging weather conditions, the team decided to take a conservative approach in the morning's qualifying session - avoiding traffic on track, and completing the session with the minimum number of laps. The strategy worked out well and Kevin managed to achieve a time of 1:22:55 within 3 laps. It turned out to be good enough for 2nd position on the Round 2 starting grid.

In the main race, Kevin made an excellent launch and managed to safeguard 2nd position. During the next few laps, Tse built up a 3-second over the 3rd-placed car, an EVO VIII, while also attempting to close the gap on the 1st-placed machine, an EVO IX. On lap 4, the then-leading EVO IX experienced technical problems, and Kevin jumped at the chance to take 1st place. He led the race from that point and had widened the gap to the 2nd-placed EVO VIII to nearly 10 seconds by the checkered flag.
