China MTCS race Rd.1: Knight Sports RX-7 scores 3rd place on the podium
April 28: Round 1 of China's MTCS Road Sport Challenge took place at the Guangdong International Circuit in China. The Knight Sports RX-7 and Mr. Kevin Tse started from pole position and took 3rd place on the podium.
The weather had recovered after a terrible rain and thunderstorm the day before. Every one of the entrants used racing dry tyres in qualifying. The Knight sports RX-7 and Kevin scored the 3rd-fastest time within the first few laps from the start of the qualifying session. However, the session was suspended twice by red flags. Kevin was unable to get a clear lap, but finally took the fastest time, a 1'22h 886, just before the end of the session. 2nd and 3rd on the grid was an EVO IX and an EVO VIII. Both drivers are Macau residents.
In the main race, thanks to their traction and the standing start format, the 4WD-equipped EVOs launched fastest. Kevin's RX-7 crossed the control line in 4th place after the first lap. Tse battled with the 3rd-placed EVO throughout the early stages, getting past on lap 8. He then pushed hard to catch the 2nd-placed machine, but there weren't enough laps remaining to sufficiently close the gap. In the end, the Knight Sports RX-7 and Kevin finished Round 1 in 3rd place.
