PAC Performance's 20B Turbo MX-6 takes second in Jamboree 21
After an abandoned original date of August 27-28, the first weekend in October offered rain free days but miserable conditions with strong winds buffeting both competitors and spectators a like. That said, there was still some great racing and performances!! With a slightly lower entrant list than the original date the PAC team fronted with seven cars to do battle.
Saturday qualifying saw George Rehayem come out and make a statement with his first pass in the 'old girl' and a 6.87@195mph, to let the piston powered boys know that the weekend would by no means be a 'lay down misère' for them. With his customary huge burnout and 'million mile an hour' reversing, George had the crowd cheering and the Rotor fans believing victory was there for the taking !!
Sunday and eliminations time. Any hope there would be any relief from the persistent wind was dashed and the blustery conditions predominantly blowing straight down the track towards the start line, dictated any record setting times would be hard won. George had a round one win with a 7.12@197.
In round two George pulled out one of the most spectacular wins ever, when one of the parachutes shook loose on launch, was fully billowed by sixty feet, but still ran 7.2.........simply amazing !!
Round three would see George take another win with a 6.81@203 and secure a place in the final.
Finals time and another classic Piston versus Rotor final to highlight the weekend, with George taking on the 2JZ might of Kiwi Rod Harvey. A great reaction time from George held off Rod to half-track, but a fast closing Rod put the result the way of the Rayglass Celica for the second year running.
