This year marks the 20th anniversary of Mazda's victory in 1991 at the Le Mans 24 Hours. Virtually all Mazda distributors and dealerships throughout the world are planning events to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the legendary victory, with activities in Europe taking central stage. Mazda Switzerland is to launch a limited edition MX-5, the "MX-5 55 Le Mans Edition." The commemorative vehicle will be available in a choice of four vibrant colours, red, grey, white, or black, and comes with a special stripe decal and logo on the car's sides. The car will also be equipped with sports parts including a Bilstein sports suspension system, front strut tower bar, LSD, and ten-spoke aluminum wheels. The cockpit will feature a special logo-adorned plaque with the car's serial number. Engine performance remains unchanged from the catalogue model with a 160ps, 2.0-litre power plant mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.

The "MX-5 55 Le Mans Edition" will be available only in Switzerland.
