Rotary vs Piston at Calder Park Raceway in Australia
The 2011 racing season has started on a high for the Pac Team, who travelled down south to Calder Park Raceway in Melbourne last weekend. It had been over 15 years since the team had been to the Victorian track, and the first time the Mazda 6 had even appeared in Melbourne. With over 200 entrants at the True Blue event and a fine weather forecast, the stage was set for a great weekend of racing.
The first run saw the Mazda 6, steered by George Rehayem, lay down an easy 6.87@201mph straight off the truck, which secured top qualifying spot for PRO FX. Sunday's racing saw race track temperatures reach 125' F, the team made a few adjustments for the conditions and took the win against Chris Dalton in his black RX7, the time boards malfunctioned and was unable to deliver an ET, but George got the clear win light. After a won by default at Round 2, Round 3 in the Round Robin format saw the PAC team up against the infamous, GAS Motorsport's Celica, the two have lined up several times with George yet to take a victory from Joe. Mazda Vs Toyota, Rotary Vs Piston, PAC Vs GAS, the stakes were pretty high, pride from both camps were on the line and the scene was set to be one of the greatest races in history. George caught Joe sleeping on the start line and beat Signorelli with a hole shot, running a 6.70@210mph against Joe's 6.69@213mph. Win to the Rotors!!!! This mph is also the PAC team's personal best and a new world record.
