Marc Duez to run RX-7 Group B car
in Boucle de Spa Legends Rally

For two days, February 18 and 19, a Mazda RX-7 (SA22C) Group B rally car will participate in the Legends category of the classic Boucle de Spa Rally, located in the centre of Belgium near Spa. Driving what was originally a works' WRC car from 1985 is former Mazdaspeed Le Mans Project member from 1988 and 1989, Belgian Marc Duez. With a field of 150 classic rally cars including examples of Audi Quattro, Ford Escort, Renault Alpine, Lancia Stratos and etc, the RX-7 Group B rally car should feature prominently as the only rotary-powered machine taking part.

Headquartered in Belgium, MRTE (Mazda Rally Team Europe) built the Group B machine, 20 of which were produced using the twin-rotor 13B rotary engine (FR drive). Though its life was short due to the rising force of the 4WD monster machines of the era from the likes of Toyota, NISSAN and Peugeot, the car scored a best result of 3rd place on the Acropolis Rally (Greece) in 1985. The RX-7 scheduled to participate in the Boucle de Spa is one of the works' examples, restored by some rally car enthusiast in Belgium. Famous rally drivers such as Bjorn Waldegaard, Stig Blomqvist, Ari Vatanen, Markku Alen, Harri Rovanpera, Thierry Boutsen and Francois Delecour are all scheduled to take part.

Marc Duez is 53 years old this year. The multi-disciplinarian has tasted success both as a circuit and rally driver, and much is expected of his participation on this occasion in the RX-7 Group B rally car.
