Tri-Point Mazda3 Races at Infineon Raceway!
CANOGA PARK, CA
The Redline Time Attack Series made its way to Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California this past weekend, October 23rd and 24th. The defining feature of this event was the heavy rain that made for challenging track conditions.
Northern California is well known for its fog and rain filled days. The time attack race at Infineon, just north of San Francisco, proved to be no exception. Heavy rains rarely let up as the cars took to the track this weekend. Despite cars trying to make it out the few times the track was drying, there were still frequent problems with hydroplaning and bumping the many walls that line Infineon Raceway.
"It was definitely a challenging weekend, between learning the challenging Infineon circuit and dealing with torrential rain," said Jason Saini, the driver for Tri-Point's Time Attack Mazda3. "Tri Point and Mazda again gave me an excellent car to drive, especially with respect to drivability." Jason noted Tri-Point's tuning of the throttle response on the high horsepower Mazda 3 as helping him navigate the rain soaked track.
Saini was first in class as well as third fastest in the Super Modified category. This was impressive given the amount of rain caught some by surprise. "Well... We should have done a better job planning for rain," said Craig Nagler of Tri-Point Motorsports. "Jason did a great job keeping the car on track considering we did not bring any Yokohama rain tires. We even searched around for a tire-grooving tool but had no luck."
