Dyson Mazda MZR-R withdraws from ALMS Round 5
2010 American Le Mans Series Round 5
Lime Rock Park, CT, July 24, 2010
Chris Dyson passed two cars at the start of the American Le Mans Northeast Grand Prix and led his home race for six laps in the #16 Castrol Dyson Racing Mazda Lola coupe. At the start of the seventh lap, he radioed that the car started to lose power down the front straight after changing up to sixth gear. He drove the car into the pits and after ten minutes, the machine was pushed back to the transporter for further examination. The car was officially retired thirty minutes later.
In the practice and qualifying session, as usual at Lime Rock, the rain came earlier than expected. It started in the morning and rained throughout practice and qualifying. Running Dunlop rain tyres for the first time this season, Guy Smith qualified the #16 Castrol Dyson Racing Mazda third on the grid, setting his fastest time on the session's last lap, one of only three cars to post a time under a minute on the wet 1.5-mile track.
After the race, a rueful Dyson said"The car was mega. We had a shot at an outright win and it is a shame that all the fans who came to see us this weekend were not able to enjoy a full show of our competitiveness. We won LMP2 last year and felt we had a stronger car this weekend."
