Pescarolo Mazda wins LMP2 class of Asian Le Mans Series

The first round of the inaugural Asian Le Mans Series took place at Okayama International Circuit under clear skies amidst autumnal weather. The Pescarolo Mazda LMP2 from Oak Racing, with drivers J.Nicolet, R.Hein and M.Lahaye won the LMP2 class in the first race of this first-ever round of the new series. The French team, with support from Mazda France, took on the challenge of competing for the first time at this circuit - and in fact, their first time in Japan.

The Pescarolo Mazda machine finished in 1st place in the first of two races in Japan, despite a less-than-optimal setup and suffering fuel- and coolant pressure issues. The Pescarolo Mazda LMP2 consists of a Pescarolo chassis and Mazda MZR-R engine.

It shows superb performance from a 2.0 litre, four cylinder turbocharged engine making in excess of 500HP with the lightweight 825kg chassis. It's the first time in a long time that a Mazda-equipped pure racing car has taken part in a race in Japan. The Pescarolo Mazda took to Okayama International Circuit like a duck to water and led the race. The second race was scheduled to take place on the following day, November 1, 2009.
