2010 Fuji Champion Race, Round 1: Roadster Cup
Fuji International Speedway (Shizuoka)

Current MAZDA Roadster (NCEC) makes its debut at Fuji!

The Fuji Champion Race Roadster Cup has proven popular with drivers as an easy category to get started in, particularly now that it welcomes the current model of Mazda roadster (NCEC) as an eligible vehicle. The opening round of new season was held under clear skies on March 14th at Fuji International Speedway.

For this race, three NCEC-version Roadsters were entered. The newcomers were classed with the NA8C and NB8C entries, meaning a combined field totaling 26 cars, though the prize-giving ceremony was conducted separately. The winner of the eight-lap main race was Tatsuya Nogami, known for recording good results in the Party Race, hosted at Tsukuba Circuit until last year. His machine was still set up to Tsukuba specifications, only swapping the ECU's speed limiter cut and brake pads to adjust to the track at Fuji. He said, "It was a complete lack of preparation," as his decision to enter the Roadster Cup was only made in March. Nevertheless, he put on an amazing performance, netting pole position and then going on to win. The second-place finisher was also a Tsukuba Party Race entrant, Ranman, followed by Hideaki Takada who commented, "I was nervous because it was my first race in five years." Organizers are looking for an increased entry list from the next round.
