The late Mr. Takayoshi Ohashi, General Manager of Mazdaspeed, is entered into the Japan Automotive Hall of Fame

November 9th, 2009. The Japan Automotive Hall of Fame, a nonprofit organization, held a ceremony for this year's recipients of the Automotive Hall of Fame at the National Museum of Nature and Science in Ueno, Tokyo.
The late Mr. Takayoshi Ohashi, General Manager of the Mazdaspeed team, joined the ranks of people who have made enormous contributions to the automotive industry and to traffic society, including an administrator working for the establishment of transportation governance in periods of rapid economic growth, a researcher of hydrogen automobiles, and a scholar of the environment and energy.
The storied prize is awarded to those people who have given distinguished service and made a significant contribution to the building of the automotive society, while fulfilling the following requirements;
(1) Technological field: For people who have endeavored to develop technology for automobiles in Japan.
(2) Industrial field: For people who have pioneered the automobile and the infrastructure of the automotive industry.
(3) Academic field: For people who have contributed to automotive engineering and academics relating to the automobile in Japan.
(4) Societal field: For people who have contributed to Japan's automotive society, in areas such as traffic systems, roads, governance and safety environment activities, and to automotive culture including sports, art etc.

The theme of Mr. Ohashi's entry into the Automotive Hall of Fame is his "Victory at the Le Mans 24 Hours with the Mazda RE racing car." The statement is that "for eighteen years he took on the challenge of the Le Mans 24 Hours with his unyielding passion and enthusiasm." He achieved the first overall victory for a Japanese automobile manufacturer at the legendary event, and made "a distinguished contribution to the growth of motorsports culture in Japan."
Ms. Chieko Ohashi , wife of Mr. Ohashi, attended the ceremony and expressed her remarks in front of over 200 attendees and the press. Mr. Ohashi is the third person related to Mazda to have been awarded the Automobile Hall of Fame prize, after Mr. Tsuneji Matsuda and Mr. Kenichi Yamamoto.
