12 hours have passed and night has come, but silence is still a long way off.
12 Hours

It is 2am on the 26th; the Rolex 24 has entered its second day of racing. Not long ago a PC class car spun on the infield course and struck the wall, bringing out a full course caution. Many of the racers used the caution as an opportunity to visit the pits, making pit lane a very crowded place.

In the SpeedSource/Mazda USA pits, the team cooked up a late night snack as the clock swept past midnight. On the menu was taco rice, a popular dish on both sides of the Pacific. Taco rice is a tasty snack made by topping steamed rice with a mixture of chili beans and spicy ground beef. During the caution, the #07 machine took the opportunity to pit and performed a driver change, with Tristan Vautier taking over from Joel Miller. On the next lap, the #70 car also stopped, but didn't take on a new driver, James Hinchcliffe remaining behind the wheel as the car re-entered the track. Except when driving under caution, Hinchcliffe's driving has shown remarkable consistency, putting up nearly identical times lap after lap. Through consistent driving without incident the #70 machine has managed to climb 3 positions in the last 3 hours, and is now circling the track in 11th place. The #07 car remains 15th, however there is still plenty of opportunity for it to advance through the field.

Just after 01:20am a PC class car that had gone off track caught fire, initiating a full course caution. Luckily, the blaze was quickly extinguished. At 01:33 the #70 car entered the pits and executed a driver change with Hinchcliffe handing over to Tom Long. At 02:00am the caution was lifted and the race got back underway.
