24 Hours of Daytona: Night Section in Progress
8 Hours

It has been 8 hours since the start of the 24 Hours of Daytona, which began shortly after 2:00pm on the 25th. The first third of the race has been run.

While it was warm during the day, after sunset, the cold returned. My finger working the shutter steadily became colder and colder. The race entered the night section just after 6:00pm, when the race was restarted under a yellow caution. However, even after that full cautions were put out on several occasions, due to machines that had scattered parts and debris after bursting tires or going off track. Aside from that, the cars all appear to be running steadily. Pushing too hard during the night and damaging the car would be futile.

For Mazda LMP2 SKYACTIV-D Racing, the #70 continues circulating at a slow pace, not getting involved in the spins etc. of other cars, and sedately putting in the laps. Eight hours into the race, it remains 14th in the prototype class, but has not had any trouble. At any rate, the car's mission is to rack up mileage. On the other hand, a crack was discovered in the intercooler after repairing the turbo on the #07 entry, which they reported and have since returned to the race. Tristan Vautier took the car back out, followed by Tristan Nunez, who then passed the baton to Joel Miller. Their pace is slightly faster than that of the #70 sister car, but after losing over an hour to turbo trouble, making a recovery will not be easy.

The night continues to wear on. Daybreak will come at 6:00am, so the night section is expected to continue for roughly another eight hours.
