John Doonan, Director of Motorsports at Mazda North American Operations, said with smile, ”Last year was a fruitful one as we secured the ALMS championship and the manufacturer's title in the Continental Tire ST Class. However, we lost the title in the Grand-Am GT series. We are hoping to obtain our 24th class win in the 24 Hours of Daytona here this weekend. Our advantages are the dependability and reliability of the rotary engine, and the nimbleness of the RX-8. The qualifying results don't bother me.“
