Yojiro Terada participates in GRAND-AM's Watkins Glen 6-Hour Race

From Friday, June 28 to Sunday, June 30, racing legend Yojiro Terada will compete in a Mazda6 SKYACTIV-D Racing machine in the Watkins Glen round of the GRAND-AM series.

Terada-san had been scheduled to participate in the #00 VISIT FLORIDA Mazda6 SKYACTIV-D Racing entry at the car's debut event, the Daytona 24 Hours this January, only for teething problems to sideline the machine before he had a chance to climb aboard. From that point, the Florida-based SpeedSource team made vital improvements to the car in a very short time. The machine's first victory in the GX class came at Road Atlanta in May, followed quickly by its second win, at the next round, in Detroit. The car was halted by an oil leak at Mid-Ohio in the second week of June, but at the same event, the #70 Speed Source Mazda6 SKYCTIV-D Racing entry took the class win.

The 66-year old Terada will join the regular drivers of the #00 VISIT FLORIDA Mazda6, Tristan Nunez, who's just turned eighteen and 21-year old Joel Miller as the trio aims for the car's third class win of the season. Practice takes place on the 28th, with final qualifying the following day, June 29th, before the race on the 30th. The Mazda6 SKYACTIV-D Racing machines contesting the GX class are powered by Mazda's 2.2-liter turbo diesel engine, producing approximately 380 horsepower.

“It's been about half a year and I'm very excited about driving the Mazda6 again. This time, hopefully we'll be able to run with all our might (laughs). I'm also looking forward to seeing just how much our two young tigers have developed,” he said.
