SpeedSource Races In Global Barter 250 2012 Grand-Am Rolex Series Round 4, New Jersey Motorsports Park
May 13, 2012
The 4th race in the 2012 GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Cars Series: Global Barter 250 took place at the New Jersey Motorsports Park. The SpeedSource team was ready to bounce back from Homestead's brief finish as the New Jersey weather greeted them with perfect driving conditions.
The SpeedSource team is no stranger to Florida's thunderstorms. After practicing on and off in the rain, they strategically prepared the #70 Castrol Edge Modspace Mazda RX-8 for the conditions expected at Homestead. On Saturday, qualifying was canceled due to inches of water pooling on the track. GRAND-AM announced that teams would thus start the race according to their ranking in the point standings. This meant that SpeedSource would start in 2nd place, on the front row.
As Sunday approached, SpeedSource thanked fans for coming out and got into race day mode. As the green flag waved, the race began and the #70 Castrol Edge Modspace Mazda RX-8 took off. Sylvain Tremblay was the first driver in the #70, and GRAND-AM officials quickly named it as the GT leader. The SpeedSource car continued to carry the title as two-thirds of the race passed by. On the 1st pit stop, the car was due for a driver change, fuel, and tires. The 2nd pit stop from the lead, Jonathan Bomarito experienced trouble starting. The crew quickly diagnosed the problem and the team acted fast to fix the problem. With the crew's quick response, Jonathan was able to get the car back out on the track and take P7 as the race finished. Although the SpeedSource team was hoping for a higher finish, the team was able to act quickly and recover the race, given the unpredicted battery complications. With less than 3 weeks until the next race, the team is trouble shooting and planning its comeback for the next race.
